Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the benefits of exercising with my baby? Many experts say the best way to lose weight after pregnancy is to work out with your baby. It can be difficult or impossible to leave your baby to exercise on your own (ex: care is unavailable, your breastfeeding, feelings of guilt leaving your newborn), so being with your baby when you exercise can be a fun way to get moving and set a life-long example of how much fun it is to workout. What are the benefits of exercising with other moms?Being a new mother can be challenging. It may be hard to find ways to get out of the house and be with others. Exercising with other new moms is an opportunity to build friendships and a support network with others going through similar struggles and joys. However, it is important to ensure everyone has positive interactions and feels welcome, and not compare or be judgmental.

What should I expect to do during class?

Get ready for a full body workout! We will be doing some cardio, strength, balance and flexibility activities throughout the class – no class will ever be the same. Your baby can be incorporated into many of the exercise – think of your little one as a playful piece of exercise equipment! Crawlers are welcome, but babies must be supervised.

How difficult are the classes?

Classes can be as easy or difficult as you would like. Each exercise can be modified for your skill level and ability.

What should I wear to class?

Please dress comfortably in clothes that can stretch with you. Dress in layers so you can shed clothes as you warm up. Shorts/Pants, T-shirts, supportive bras, and sneakers are recommended. Remember that everyone in the class with you will be postpartum, so wear whatever is most comfortable for you and your baby(s)!

What do I need to bring to class?

Yoga mats and other fitness equipment are provided for you. Bring a blankets, pillows, or towels, for your baby, and feel free to bring a front carrier or portable car seat if that would be comfortable for you and your baby.

You also need to be sure to bring a water bottle. Exercising new moms (especially nursing moms) need lots of water. A water cooler is available for refills. We will break for water during our classes. Bringing a snack for after class is a good idea too, as some people experience a drop in their blood sugar after exercise.

In addition, on the first day of class please bring your participant release form and payment.

What if I need to feed my baby during class?

Feeding your baby during a class is absolutely fine. Arriving 15 minutes early should give you enough time to get settled and make sure your baby is full and ready to let you exercise.

What if my baby cries during class?

Babies cry – that’s just what they do! If your baby cries during class, you can stop exercising to comfort your baby. There are little alcoves in the Fitness Studio that you can take your baby for a little quiet space. If you know that all of your baby’s needs have been met but is still crying, it’s fine to continue exercising. Do whatever you need to get the most out of the class and ensure your baby’s comfort.

How long are classes?

Classes are 30 minutes.

Do you offer make-up classes or refunds? What happens when there is inclement weather?

At this time, there is only one class offered per week. If you miss a class, unfortunately you are not able to make it up. There are no refunds for classes missed.

In case of inclement weather, the instructor will contact all participants if the facility is closed. An additional make-up class will be offered to all participants for any classes missed due to facility closure.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, check (made payable to Barb Seiden) and PayPal are accepted. All clients must pay at the beginning of each session.
